Bard Mythologies focus is about the role of myth in understanding and shaping culture, identity and meaning in the past, present and future. It is in this context that this program will seek to understand the role of the Irish Myths and Archetypes (Gods and Goddesses, Heroes and Heroines) in shaping the History of Ireland over the last 200 years. Then, we will recognise and remember that at two critical periods during these centuries, Ireland was really suffering – the Famine and the Civil War. These were really traumatic times and given that choices made during such a time may be more about survival they may not have been the best choices.
Now, in 2023, we have the opportunity to review these choices and maybe using our imagination (fantasia) rethink the Myths we Live By. See you in the Pearse Museum on February 5th if this project captures your interest?
