This input from Sandy highlights the mythic world view of the English with the long term “chosen people” theme. The Irish under the Church leadership of Paul Cullen had a different, Roman form of Sacred Heart Catholicism that took hold with a traumatised people.

Tom gives an introduction to the Irish History of the Period 1875 to 1900, picking up themes from Daniel O’Connell, but with a particular focus on Charles Stewart Parnell.
3) THE GODDESS MACHA: A RETELLING
In the spirit of bringing in both history /herstory from an individuals perspective and also from the Goddess perspective we hear one of Karina’s wonderful telling’s of the Goddess.

4) THE PERSPECTIVE OF THE QUEEN
We hear from Fiona on the great English Queen, Victoria and how she saw the period of history and in particular her thoughts on her Irish subjects and on matters such as the pressure for Home Rule.

We move to hearing the perspective of a very significant Irish woman, Augusta Gregory.
Of particular interest is the contrast between the salons of London’s Literary Culture and the experience she had of the native oral tradition on the Aran Islands…. and the actions she then took.
