The Story of the Compendium of Irish Mythic Stories through Time

The thinking behind this Immersion is to look at the “Compendium of Stories”

that is the Irish Myths but from a Historical or Herstorical perspective.  We are of course looking at the Gaelic Bardic Tradition and how it evolved over time and how it certainly suffered hugely under the Tudor and then Stuart occupation. We can ask what happened at all the stages and especially did it ever actually disappear or rather go underground.

This will be our first venture into what we call Mythic History. We are intending to look at history from the perspective of the big stories, the myths that were central to the people of Ireland during different eras. We plan to give a short introduction to the known history/herstory of each period but also work in groups to imagine what the response and affects of the mythic narratives on different stakeholders within Irish Culture. The participants will be asked to use their imagination to create their thinking of what things might have gone on in fact and in the collective imagination of the people at different historical eras.
