Women and Power Week 6

Week 6 March 5th Grainne: Love and Duty

During this week we explored the tension between love and duty in the great love story of Diarmuid and Grannia. The power of social obligations, in this case Diarmuid’s obligation to the Fianna and how it sets up a conflict with the love geasa put on him by Grainne. Then, we see Fionn, it seems consumed with the threat this ‘betrayal’ of Diarmuid and how he acts. Pursuing the young lovers out of anger and jealousy faces him with a powerful internal conflict. Does it destroy the Fianna.
